Meredith McFadden

Author: D Meredith McFadden

In her teens, D Meredith McFadden travelled the world. She worked as an actor for the BBC and theatre companies in England and Germany, before returning to Australia.

She broadcast her amusing adventures in post-World War II Europe, now in book form called All the World’s a Stage, Too.  It brings back memories of a time when people with a war-torn past, faced the future with confidence and above all, good humour.

As an adult student, she took a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History and then a Master of Arts at the University of Sydney.

Her writing credits include various newspaper, magazine articles and radio programmes for national broadcasters, most with a history slant.

The Thai Ministry of Education commissioned her to write a dramatised history of Australia. This was translated into Thai and broadcast throughout that country.

Meredith taught History and English at a leading Sydney girls’ school, and later headed their English Department.

A new career path beckoned when she became a Director of her family company, Warsash Scientific Pty Ltd www.warsash.com.au, one that imports world-wide state-of-the-art scientific equipment into Australia.

This necessitated frequent visits to UK. During one of them, she met her long-time correspondent and fellow Aubrey descendant, researcher and genealogist Pam Buttrey.

Together, they have spent years of detailed research, gathering data and verifying the existing records of nine generations extending over 360 years.  Only then were the lives of the Aubreys of Clehonger clarified and set in their historical context.  Salt & Silk, covering the early years, is the result of that work and collaboration.

Silk & Spice - further Aubrey chronicles, vividly brings to life later generations of this gentry family.
